The Game:
A gimmick rally is traditionally a non-competitive entry level event that, in our case, quickly becomes a highly competitve, but still a friendly game.  Almost any person with the right equipment and skills can become a master sleuth and figure out the gimmicks set forth, the only difference being technique.  Spirit is key in our event, so don't be afraid to show off the "other" you.  Solving seemingly mediocre puzzles brings an adrenal rush of exictement when you are in the presence of many other teams playing the same game.

Traveling through approximately 1500 roundtrip miles of paved roadways, participants will be faced with several challenges along the way.  A number of stops are required to locate clues & gimmicks; their purpose is sometimes to find out the direction to the next stop, and other times to gain a gimmick answer correctly.  But be forewarned, this gimmick rally is tried and tested very well before scavenger hunters are sent on their way -- The answers to all clues can only be found by following the designated route, and improper speed can often cause you to overlook them.

The Rules:
The rules are simple, other than basic regulations as set forth in our Terms & Conditions.  This is not just any rally, it's the Dustball Rally, the single largest organized scavenger hunt in the nation.  It has its own camera crews, photographers, volunteers, and staff -- all of this assembled for the sheer enjoyment of sharing the open road with friends and strangers during a multi-day mission.

Being a friendly non-competitve hunt (haha), among peers that also enjoy motorsport, it is imperative that it is enjoyed to the fullest extent that is allowed by law.  Friendly pranks, gags, misdirection, etc. is more than welcomed and scores bigger in the spirit department.

The Highest possible award to attain is the Spirit of the Dustball "Willie Williams" Award.  For more detailed information on this, please view our sections on Spirit and Previous Winners under the main menu.

Join us on this adventure, we will show you how to make 12 months of memories through only a few days of driving.  We will introduce you to 80 other people that share this common interest, and you may become friends with.  We will take you along an unforgettable route to an incomparable destination for the ultimate southwest roadtrip experience.  This will be four great days that you will never forget...until next time...

Only 35 regular teams will be accepted for the 2011 Dustball Rally. Entries received beyond this capacity will be returned. Previous Dustball Rally participants will have priority over newcomers, and are eligible to register earlier than standard open registration to secure their slots.
